In October 2014, the European retail company Hofer KG showed interest to start a Private Public Partnership project in West Bengal later named West Bengal Traditional Black Tiger Project (WTBT). This project was a joint venture between Hofer KG and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and was supported by Ristic GmbH (SHORE Group), one of the leading shrimp importers in Europe.
The project had two objectives: On the one hand, developing a certified organic supply chain and on the other hand, improving the social and ecological situation in the farming area.
After the successful closure of the Hofer KG project in January 2017 Blue Sea Aquaculture Private Limited was formed as a spin-off of the Hofer KG project. Apurba Saha, founder of Blue Sea Aquaculture Private Limited, started the company with the objective of becoming a pioneering company for organic and sustainable seafood in India.
Blue Sea Aquaculture is pioneer in organic aquaculture production and marketing in India . Currently, our supply chain for the Black Tiger Shrimp is the only certified organic aquaculture operation in the country.
